Board Secretary

Marisa Hirsch has over ten years of legal experience in a variety of public interest work, coupled with a genuine passion for nonprofit causes.

Marisa moved to sunny San Diego where she currently resides in 2013 to attend the University of California, San Diego. During her second year at UCSD, Marisa joined JusticeCorps, a branch of AmeriCorps, assisting individuals in a domestic violence clinic run by the Legal Aid Society of San Diego. Marisa Hirsch graduated Cum Laude from University of California San Diego in 2017, with a Bachelors of the Arts in Political Science and a minor in Philosophy. She worked for two years at a local Plaintiff employment law firm representing workers rights as a legal assistant before attending law school at California Western School of Law in 2019. Marisa was awarded academic merit scholarships each year of law school, and became a teaching fellow for Property law during her second year.

Throughout law school, Marisa focused on public interest law. She was a certified legal intern with the San Diego County Public Defender's office and Uprise Theatre, a local nonprofit, to learn more about criminal defense, community, accountability, and prison abolition. Marisa also became an active member of Team Justice San Diego and SURJ San Diego (Showing Up for Racial Justice).

Marisa graduated Magna Cum Laude from law school in April 2022 and was sworn in as a California attorney in December 2022. For the first year and half as an attorney, Marisa worked as an associate attorney for the San Diego general liability team at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard and Smith, a prominent nationwide civil defense law firm. There she developed litigation skills and advised in-house counsel and corporate clients alike about liability and risk management.

Marisa remains involved with Uprise Theatre and Team Justice San Diego. As a member of Team Justice San Diego, Marisa actively supports and participates in grassroots lobbying efforts regarding local and state legislation championed by BIPOC San Diego community leaders.
